Final Evaluation of the EU-ACP Development of Food Safety Systems Programme (EDES Programme)

Mid Term evaluation of the EDES programme was launched in the beginning of 2013 and it included filed visits to Dominican Republic, Kenya, Mauritius, Mauritania, Senegal and Cameroon.

The mid-term evaluation highlighted that EDES programme is well received and keenly anticipated among supply chain operators, mainly due to the support it provides in adapting legislation and strengthening referral bodies (official controls, laboratories, etc.).

The final evaluation, will provide the relevant external co-operation services of the European Commission, the beneficiaries and the wider public with sufficient information.

The main goal of the project is to improve the contribution of food and feed trade to poverty reduction in ACP beneficiary countries. More specifically that risk-based food safety systems for export products are established in ACP countries in line with regional, international and EU SPS standards.
